Common questions
How do I move my journal to a new phone?
On your old phone, open Settings → Your journal → Move to a new phone, and send the file to yourself (AirDrop, Files or Mail all work).
On the new phone, install Debrief and go through the 2 setup screens. Then open Settings → Your journal → Import a journal and pick the file.
Setting up the new iPhone from an iCloud Backup of the old one? Then your journal comes back on its own.
Is my journal backed up?
It's saved in your iPhone's own iCloud Backup, if that's turned on. To check, open the Settings app → your name → iCloud → iCloud Backup, and make sure Debrief is listed and switched on.
We don't have a copy of your journal. If your phone is lost and there's no backup or exported file, the journal is gone.
Can I read my journal outside the app?
Yes. Settings → Your journal → Save a copy to read creates a plain-text file with every entry, oldest first.
My reminder isn't showing up.
Check that notifications are on in the Settings app → Notifications → Debrief. Then open Debrief once to refresh its reminders.
Reminders come at a different time each day inside the window you picked, and they skip any day you've already written.
The microphone button is missing.
Voice only shows up on iPhones that can recognize speech without an internet connection, so your words never leave the phone. If it's missing, you can still use the dictation key on the iPhone keyboard.
I wrote after midnight. Why does it count for the day before?
Debrief's day ends at 5 AM, so a late-night entry belongs to the evening you lived. You can edit or start over on an entry until then.
How do I delete everything?
Settings → Erase journal deletes every entry and setting on your phone. Export first if you want to keep a copy.
